Women’s Soccer Opens MIAC Play With 2-0 Win At Carleton

The Gustavus women’s soccer team started Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play today with a 2-0 victory at Carleton. The Gusties scored both their goals in the second half while the defense recorded its fourth-straight shutout. Gustavus improves to 3-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the MIAC, while the Knights drop their first game of the season, falling to 4-1 overall and 0-1 in the league.

Coach Jon Carlson has coached champion Gustavus Adolphus College swimming, diving and tennis teams for a combined 57 seasons— 28 with swimming and diving, 29 with tennis. Swimming World featured Carlson in its Sept. 2017 issue.

Men’s Soccer Set For Conference Play At Carleton

The Gustavus men’s soccer team is set to head into the 2017 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule, starting with a Wednesday afternoon matchup at Carleton College.

Women’s Soccer To Host Charity Game Saturday For Would-Be Junior Midfielder Trina Rinke

The Gustavus women’s soccer team is hosting a charity game Saturday for one of its own players. Trina Rinke, a would-be junior midfielder for the Gusties this season, was forced to forego the soccer season and the fall semester while she goes through chemotherapy as a result of being diagnosed with ovarian cancer. A voluntary entrance donation to Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. game against Concordia at the Gustie Soccer Field will go to the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MOCA), which provides support to women with ovarian cancer while raising awareness and advancing research.

Men’s Golf Jumps Up Four Spots, Finishes Third At UW-Eau Claire Invite

After sitting in seventh place after the first round of the Frank Wrigglesworth Invite, the Gustavus men’s golf team posted the lowest second round team score to jump up four spots and finish third of 16 on Monday afternoon. The Gusties shot a 310-300-610, which was four shots off the leader Augsburg at 297-309-606. Host UW-Eau Claire took second with a 305-302-607.

Women’s Golf Wins UW-Eau Claire Invite For Third-Straight Year

The Gustavus women’s golf team claimed the Georgianni – Blugold Invite championship Monday at the Eau Claire Golf and Country Club after shooting a 328-330-658 (+82). This is the third consecutive year the Gusties have won the Georgianni – Blugold Invite. Host UW-Eau Claire took second with a 678 and St. Norbert took third at 722. Morgan Bleyhl (So., Elk River, Minn.) and McKenzie Swenson (Sr., Buffalo, Minn.) tied for medalist honors, each carding a 162 (+18). Bleyhl shot 81 both days, while Swenson shot an 82 yesterday and 80 today.

Luethmers Named MIAC Volleyball Libero Of The Week

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its volleyball Athlete of the Week awards this afternoon, with Gustavus defensive specialist Brittany Luethmers (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) earning the Libero of the Week honor.   

Women’s Golf Holds 16-Stroke Lead After First Round At UW-Eau Claire

The Gustavus women’s golf team shot a first round 328 Sunday at the Georgianni Invite, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, which has the Gusties in first place by 16 strokes. Host UW-Eau Claire is in second after shooting a 344 and St. Norbert is in third at 368 within in the nine-team field.

Men’s Golf In Seventh After Round One At UW-Eau Claire Invite

The Gustavus men’s golf team sits in seventh place out of 16 teams after the first round of the Frank Wrigglesworth Invite, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Clarie. The Gusties shot a 310 (+22), which is 13 shots of the leader Augsburg. Viterbo and UW-Eau Claire are tied for second after shooting 303.
