ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team looks to ride its momentum into Saturday as it hosts the University of St. Thomas for a Homecoming matchup. The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game begins at 3:30 p.m. at the Gustie Soccer Field. The Gusties enter the match with a 5-1-1 overall record and 2-0 mark in the MIAC, while the Tommies are 5-1-1 overall and 2-1 in the league.

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus continued its winning ways Tuesday, defeating UW-Stout 2-1 for its third straight win and fifth in the past six games. Abby Mullenbach (So., Lakeville, Minn.) and Josie Mazzone (Sr., Rapid City, S.D.) scored their first goals of the season as Ashley Becker (Jr., Farmington, Minn.) made five saves. After seven games this season, Chase Miller (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) leads the team with eight points on three goals and two assists. Sophie Leininger (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) leads the team with four assists. Becker has been solid as the keeper, recording 36 saves (2nd/MIAC) with a 0.56 goals against average (3rd/MIAC) and .900 save percentage (4th/MIAC). Head Coach Laura Burnett-Kurie, now in her sixth season at the helm, is coaching in her 100th game tomorrow since taking over for former coach Mike Stehlik. Burnett-Kurie has guided the Gusties to a 44-47-8 record overall and is 28-14-5 in the past three seasons.

Scouting the Tommies: St. Thomas’ streak of four straight wins was snapped Wednesday against Hamline 1-0. The Tommies outshot the Pipers 10-8 but could not put one in the net. After seven games this season, Mallory DeBoom leads the team with 12 points on five goals and two assists. Brielle Bierman and Hailey Zweber are next in line with four points each. Katie Lynn has spent the most time in goal at 361:22 and has yet to allow a goal with 16 saves. The Tommies average 1.86 goals per game and give up 0.43 on average.
