ST. PETER, Minn. – Day one of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships and Gustie Fall Invite is complete as singles play moved on to at least the round of 32 with doubles in the round of 16 in the ITA tourney, while the Fall Invite singles draws are set up for the championship matches in each of the eight flights.

In the ITA regional, top-seeded Bridget Bellissimo of UW-La Crosse and No. 4 seed Natalie Wijesinghe of UW-Eau Claire have advanced to the round of 32, while No. 2 Danielle Vasiliev of Carleton and No. 3 Alex Talyansky of UW-Whitewater are in the round of 16, having played one more match. The rest of the top-eight seeds – Zoe Park of Carleton, Hayley Resnick of Coe, Milica Cvrkota of Grinnell, and Arantxa Martinez – remain in the fold with victories as well.

The ITA double went through the first two rounds and is now down to the round of 16. The top four rated teams of Resnick/French of Coe, Henderson/Wijesinghe of UW-Eau Claire, Bellissimo/Spahn of UW-La Crosse, and McGuire/Wallace of UW-Whitewater all remain alive in the touney.

The Gustie Fall Invite singles championship matches are set up as follows:

Draw 1: Hannah Zevenbergen (UW-Eau Claire) vs. Lydia Dean (Edgewood)

Draw 2: Shira Busch (UW-La Crosse) vs. Ellie Bergstrand (St. Olaf)

Draw 3: Tayler Garves (UW-La Crosse) vs. Tiffany Maggioncalda (Carroll)

Draw 4: Katelyn Rice (St. Scholastica) vs. Emily Knight (Northwestern)

Draw 5: Ella Graham (St. Catherine) vs. Colleen Lois (Saint Mary’s)

Draw 6: Gabby Oswald (UW-Eau Claire) vs. Nikki Paskewitz (Northwestern)

Draw 7: Jess Duda (St. Catherine) vs. Madeline Slicker (UW-Whitewater)

Draw 8: Lora Leach (Carroll) vs. Hannah Fox (Wartburg)

Only one round of Fall Invite doubles was played Friday, leaving three more rounds to play.

The ITA regional and Gustie Fall Invite continue at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Gustavus’s Katie Aney received a first round bye as a top-16 seed in the ITA regional and went on to shut out Paige Nierman of UW-Whitewater 6-0, 6-0, moving on to the round of 32 and will face Maggie Riermann of Bethel tomorrow. Ginger Valentine also received a bye as a top-16 seed and won her first match 7-5, 6-1 over Sami Hindt of Bethel. Valentine will face Laura Sonday of Saint Mary’s tomorrow.

Laura Martin also enjoyed a first round bye but then lost to Bridgid McGuire of UW-Whitewater 6-3, 6-1. Sheila Sullivan lost her first match 6-4, 6-2 to Sabrina Barboza of St. Olaf. Hannah Borgh had a first round bye but then fell to Danielle Vasiliev of Carleton 6-2, 6-1.

Briana Hartmann has advanced to the round of 16 after victories over Gabby Ferro of Cornell (6-0, 6-0) and Julie Martin of UW-Whitewater (6-7(3), 6-4, 10-8). Hartmann will face top-eight seed Milica Cvrkota of Grinnell tomorrow.

In doubles action, top-eight seeded Aney and Hartmann defeated Kopiecki and Pieterick of Hamline 8-1 after a first round bye and will face Sonday and Lois of Saint Mary’s tomorrow. The Gustie duo of Valentine and Borgh are also alive with an 8-2 win over Sporer and Eckstrom of St. Kate’s followed by a 9-7 win over Cogan and Cvrkota of Grinnell. Valentine and Borgh will face Lindsay and Benoy of St. Thomas tomorrow. Sullivan and Martin suffered an 8-2 loss to Henderson and Wijesinghe of UW-Eau Claire after defeating Kolbow and Miller of Saint Ben’s.
