ALTOONA, Wis. – The Gustavus women’s golf team claimed the Georgianni – Blugold Invite championship Monday at the Eau Claire Golf and Country Club after shooting a 328-330-658 (+82). This is the third consecutive year the Gusties have won the Georgianni – Blugold Invite. Host UW-Eau Claire took second with a 678 and St. Norbert took third at 722. Morgan Bleyhl (So., Elk River, Minn.) and McKenzie Swenson (Sr., Buffalo, Minn.) tied for medalist honors, each carding a 162 (+18). Bleyhl shot 81 both days, while Swenson shot an 82 yesterday and 80 today.
Jessica Nelson (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) finished in fourth place, three shots off the lead with an 82-83-165. Kristen Cash (So., Roseville, Minn.) tied for sixth with an 83-86-169, while Ellie Brandt (Jr., Wayzata, Minn.) tied for ninth with an 84-88-172.
“It was a good win today, especially adding a few shots to our lead from yesterday,” Assistant Coach Randy Stuckey said. “There were some tough pin placements and got the best of our putting, but we showed patience. As we prepare this week for the national preview tournament we have to eliminate all doubt in our games.”
The Gusties next compete at the NCAA Preview Sunday and Monday at Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
