ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus cross country program hosted its annual Alumni Meet on Saturday at the Linneaus Arboretum with 26 women competing and 44 men. The current Gusties defeated the “Rusty Gustie” alumni by marks of 28-31 for the men and 24-37 for the women.

Alumni Leighton Becher won the men’s race with a time of 16:14.27. Jeremy Gilbertson (Fy., Maple Grove, Minn.) crossed the line first for the current Gusties in 16:21.09. Joe Renier and Nick Ross, both alumni, finished third and fourth, respectively, with times of 16:29.89 and 16:30.83. Ryley Sandberg (Sr., Alleman, Iowa), Alex Wischnack (Jr., Norwood, Minn.), and Ben Madigan (Jr., Kohler, Wis.) followed with fifth through seventh place finishes for the current Gusties.

On the women’s side, alumni Nicole Porath won the race with a time of 18:35.67. Sadie Klug (Sr., Waseca, Minn.) took second in 19:01.48. Recent graduate Marit Sonnesyn took third place in 19:28.93, while Sarah Anderson (So., Roseville, Minn.) placed fourth in 19:36.40 and Olivia Rosenow (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.) finished fifth at 19:52.34.

Gustavus will get a good look at how it stands within the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference next Saturday as the Gusties compete at the St. Olaf Invitational. The women’s race begins at 10 a.m. and the men follow at 11 a.m.
