ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team is set for two more non-conference matches on the road this weekend before entering conference play next week. The Gusties take on Lawrence University at 7 p.m. Friday before traveling to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 3 p.m. Sunday. The Gusties enter the weekend 1-1, Lawrence is 1-2, and UW-La Crosse is 1-0-1.

Last time out: The Gusties won their first game of the season Sunday in Duluth, Minn., defeating UW-River Falls 1-0. Chase Miller (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) scored what proved to be the game-winner 14:25 into the match. Sophie Leininger (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) found Miller in front of the goal and the junior midfielder fired a shot over the head of the keeper for the lone score of the day. Gustavus controlled the pace of play throughout the match, outshooting the Falcons 20-9, including a 12-4 advantage in the first half. Miller led the offensive pressure with five shots and four on goal. Ashley Becker (Jr., Farmington, Minn.) made three saves.

Scouting the Vikings: Lawrence claimed its first victory of the season Wednesday against Lakeland 1-0, before losing 4-0 to Saint Mary’s and 5-1 to North Park. Ryan Berkley has scored both of the team’s goals early in the season. Kelli Quick assisted on one of those goals. Katlyn Seiffert has played every minute as the keeper with a 3.02 goals against average and .609 save percentage.

Scouting the Eagles: UW-La Crosse started its season with a decisive 4-0 win at Dubuque and then tied St. Thomas 1-1 Sunday. The Eagles host their home opener this evening against Carthage. Kaitlyn Villars, Maddie Granos, and Alex Cording lead the team with a goal and an assist each. Kennedy Brault has spent the most time in net, holding a 1.16 goals against average and .846 save percentage.
