ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s basketball team continues Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon, hosting the College of Saint Benedict at Gus Young Court. The 12-0 (5-0 MIAC) Gusties are set to tip off against the 8-4 (4-1 MIAC) Blazers at 1 p.m.

Setting the scene: The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s basketball team continues Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon, hosting the College of Saint Benedict. Gustvaus most recently earned its 12th win of the season at Augsburg College Wednesday evening. The Gusties defeated the Auggies by a score of 73-51 and totaled the most single-game rebounds (46) and assists (26) of the season. In the latest D3hoops.com rankings, the Gusties received 36 votes.

The Series: Saturday’s contest marks the 72nd all-time meeting between Gustavus and Saint Benedict with the Blazers holding a 47-24 record over the Gusties. Last season, Gustavus had a 2-1 record against Saint Benedict, last defeating the Blazers in a MIAC Playoff Quarterfinal matchup by a score of 65-40 at Gus Young Court.

Scouting the Blazers: The College of Saint Benedict most recently earned its fourth conference win of the season on Wednesday against Concordia College, defeated the Cobbers by a score of 66-48. Overall, the Blazers own an 8-4 record and have allowed an average of 55.3 points to opponents – the third best mark in the MIAC. Junior forward Chelsey Guetter leads the Blazers, averaging 10.0 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.

Gustavus notables:

– The Gusties’ 12-0 start marks the second best start in program history. The 2002-03 Gustavus squad began the season with a 13-0 record before suffering its first loss.

– In Wednesday’s win at Augsburg, Gustavus tallied a season-high 46 rebounds and 26 assists. Hannah Howard (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) recorded a season-best 17 points and 12 rebounds. Justine Lee (So., Dawson, Minn.) tied a season-high with 15 points.

– Gustavus ranks first in the MIAC in free throw percentage (78.4%), assists per game (17.8), and steals per game with (13.4). – Wedneday’s win at Augsburg marked the 10th win in which the Gusties won by double figures.

Mikayla Miller (So., Goodhue, Minn.) leads the Gusties in scoring, averaging 18.1 points per game – which ranks second in the MIAC.

– Hannah Howard ranks second in the MIAC with a 60.0 field goal percentage.

Miranda Rice (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.) ranks among the top-five scorers in the MIAC, averaging 15.8 points per game. Her 58.9 field goal percentage also ranks among the top-five.

– Mikayla Miller currently sits at 1,076 points for her career, needing just two points to break into the top-10 all-time Gustavus Women’s Basketball career point leaders.
