Track & Field Teams To Compete At Ted Nelson Classic Saturday

The Gustavus track and field teams are set to participate in the Ted Nelson Classic, hosted by the Minnesota State University, Mankato, on Saturday at the Myers Fieldhouse. Participating teams include Augustana, Carleton, Concordia, Gustavus, Iowa Central, Mary, Minnesota State, Minot State, Sioux Falls, South Dakota State, Southwest State, St. Cloud State, St. Olaf and UW-La Crosse. Field events begin at 11 a.m. and track events begin at 11:30 a.m.

Women’s Hockey Takes On Saint Mary’s This Weekend

The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s hockey team takes on Saint Mary’s University this weekend in a home-away series. The Gusties travel to Winona, Minn. on Friday, Feb. 5 for a 7 p.m. game at Saint Mary’s Ice Arena, and return home to Don Roberts Ice Rink on Saturday, Feb. 6 for a 2 p.m. game at Don Roberts Ice Rink. Gustavus enters the series with a 7-8-4 overall record and 6-3-3 mark in the MIAC, while Saint Mary’s comes into the series at 6-10-3 overall and 5-5-2 in the league.

Men’s Hockey Set For Key MIAC Series Against Saint Mary’s This Weekend

The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s hockey team is set for an extremely important MIAC series against Saint Mary's University this weekend. The Gusties enter the series with a 4-11-4 overall record and 3-5-2 mark (11 points) in the MIAC, while the Cardinals are 8-11-2 overall and 5-6-1 (16 points) in the league. A Gustavus series sweep would move the Gusties one point ahead of the Cardinals, and at the very least, into sixth place. By adding an Augsburg sweep over Hamline (15 points), Gustavus would then move into fifth place, and the final playoff spot, with two weekends remaining in the regular season.

Swimming & Diving Teams Round Out Regular Season At Minnesota Challenge This Weekend

The Gustavus men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams are set to compete in their last meet of the regular season Friday and Saturday at the Minnesota Challenge, hosted by the University of Minnesota at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. The meet begins at 6 p.m. Friday and resumes at 12 p.m. Saturday.

Women’s Basketball Comeback Effort Falls Short, Defeated 75-67 By No. 11 St. Thomas

The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s basketball team was defeated 75-67 by the University St. Thomas on Wednesday at Gus Young Court. The No. 11 Tommies held the lead for the entirety of the game, but the Gusties fought hard to bring their 12-point deficit to one in the final quarter. However, a 14-7 Tommie run in the final 3:25 along with key free-throw shooting widened their advantage to 13 with 16 seconds to play, and the Gusties eventually suffered the eight-point defeat.

Men’s Basketball Can’t Dig Out Of First Half Hole, Falls 87-72 At No. 5 St. Thomas

The Gustavus men’s basketball team suffered an 87-72 loss to No. 5 St. Thomas on Wednesday night, snapping a four-game win streak. The Gusties fall to 9-11 overall and 6-9 in the MIAC, while the Tommies extend their win streak to 14 with an overall record of 18-1 and a 13-1 mark in the league.

Swanson Named MIAC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete-Of-The-Week

Gustavus thrower Sarah Swanson (Fairbanks, Alaska) won not once, but twice, with a pair of spectacular performances last weekend at the St. Olaf Invite. The Gustie senior finished first in both her events - the shot put and weight throw - with distances that rank among the top two in the MIAC this season. For her performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Swanson Wednesday with the MIAC Women's Indoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week award.

Gustavus track and field athletes Sarah Swanson (Sr., Fairbanks, Alaska) and Ed ReMine (Jr., Mantorville, Minn.), and Head Coach Dale Bahr joined the voice of the Golden Gusties Tom Wheeler on Saturday morning for the Gustie Spotlight, which aired on AM 860 KNUJ.

Men’s Basketball Faces Tough Test Wednesday At No. 5 St. Thomas

The Gustavus men’s basketball team begins a three-game road trip with a tough test at 7 p.m. Wednesday at No. 5-ranked St. Thomas. The Tommies won game one of the series 71-53 on Jan. 6 in St. Peter. The Gusties enter the matchup with a 9-10 overall record and 6-8 mark in the MIAC, while the Tommies are 17-1 overall and 12-1 in the league. Gustavus is trying to extend a four-game winning streak, while St. Thomas has won 13 straight.
