Football Kicks Off 100th Season With Successful Golf Tournament

The Gustavus football program welcomed more the 150 alumni, family, and friends to its 26th annual Golden Gustie Football Golf Tournament held August 5 at Shoreland Country Club. The golf tourney marked the first official event of the football program’s 100th season, which culminates with a celebration event on October 1 after the homecoming game against Concordia.

His experiences on the hill have allowed him to discover his vocation, play on the Golden Gusties football team, and – most recently – to spend the summer on an archaeological dig in Portugal after winning the College’s Kehm Smith Award.

2016-17 Marks 75th Season Of Gustavus Men’s Hockey

The 2016-17 Gustavus men’s hockey campaign marks a monumental milestone for the program as it celebrates 75 seasons at the College. The 75th season celebration will be highlighted by three events - the annual golf tournament, a celebration of life service for legendary coach Don Roberts, and an all-alumni and friends celebration in Alumni Hall on Nov. 19.

Gustavus Tennis Teams Well Represented In 2016 ITA Academic Awards

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association recently announced its 2016 Academic Awards and the Gustavus men’s and women’s teams are well represented. The men’s team features five players as 2016 scholar athletes, while the women’s squad is recognized as an all-academic team with 11 scholar athletes.

Men’s Golf Alum Neil Johnson Cashes In Big At Colorado Open

2004 Gustavus graduate Neil Johnson finished his collegiate career as a four-time All-American and was a team member of a national championship. He has since played golf professionally for the past decade and last Sunday marked the biggest win of his career. Johnson won the CoBank Colorado Open, which included a field of players who had previously been on the PGA Tour.

Legendary Gustavus Men’s Hockey Coach Don Roberts Dies At 83

Legendary Gustavus Adolphus College men’s hockey coach Don Roberts died Sunday, July 24 at the age of 83 after battling degenerative heart disease. A private family service will be held this week, however a public service celebrating Roberts’ life will be held in Christ Chapel on the Gustavus campus in the very near future. Details will be announced in the coming days.

Gustavus Set to Induct Nine New Members into Athletics Hall of Fame

The Gustavus Adolphus College Athletics Department has chosen nine individuals for induction into its Athletics Hall of Fame. The 2016 inductees include Ryan Boutwell ’99 (Football), Scott Crowell ’01 (Soccer), Heather Fitch ’96 (Gymnastics), Rick Hjelm ’83 (Hockey), Molly Nemes ’01 (Gymnastics, Track & Field), Bret Newcomb ’92 (Hockey), Dana Peterson ’96 (Cross Country, Track & Field), Rod Swenson ’99 (Baseball), and Larry Zelenz (Coach). This group will be honored at the Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet, which will be held in Alumni Hall at 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, following the Hall of Fame football game against Saint John's at 1 p.m.

Four Women’s Golfers Named WGCA All-American Scholars

The Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars were announced Tuesday and four Gustavus student-athletes were recognized with the prestigious honor - senior Chloe Altmann (Olivia, Minn.), junior Mae Meierhenry (Sioux Falls, S.D.), sophomore Jessica Nelson (Wayzata, Minn.), and first-year Ellie Brandt (Wayzata, Minn.). The criteria for selection to the All-America Scholar Team includes a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. A total of 830 women’s collegiate golfers make up the 2015-16 season’s team.

Britt Stewart Named Head Softball Coach At Gustavus Adolphus College

Britt Stewart, a native of Minnetonka, Minn., has been named the head softball coach at Gustavus Adolphus College, which was announced Tuesday by Athletic Director Tom Brown. Stewart most recently completed her third season at Southwest Minnesota State University where she was the lead pitching and assistant hitting coach.

Gustavus Hosts ITA Summer Circuit Event

Gustavus Adolphus College is hosting an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Summer Circuit event Friday through Sunday, July 1-3. The tournament brings together college players from all divisions as well as top junior players for a weekend of singles and doubles. Play begins with play-in matches, beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday. Main draw and consolation matches continue Saturday with play beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday’s matches also begin at 9 a.m.
