Men’s Hockey Battles To 3-3 Tie With No. 1 UW-Stevens Point

Not many people outside the Gustavus community would have given the Gustie men’s hockey team much of a chance Friday night against No. 1-ranked and defending national champion University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Not to be overlooked, the Gusties stood tall against the Pointers in the home opener at Don Roberts Ice Rink, skating to a 3-3 tie to move to 1-1-1 overall.

Men’s Hockey Hosts Home Opener Tonight Against Defending National Champions

The Gustavus men’s hockey team hosts its home opener at 7:05 p.m. tonight against a formidable opponent in defending national champion and No. 1-ranked University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The Gusties enter tonight’s game 1-1 after splitting their two contests at the MIAC Showcase last week, while the Pointers are 2-0 after defeating Aurora and Lawrence last week. Gustavus wraps up the weekend tomorrow night at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. The Blugolds are 2-0 with wins over Finlandia and St. Scholastica.

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has recognized Carston Dammann (Sr., Lake City, Minn.) as the men's winner of the 2016 MIAC Cross Country Elite 22 award.

Volleyball Erases Two-Set Deficit, Tops St. Thomas To Advance To MIAC Championship

Trailing 2-0 after two sets Thursday, the Gustavus volleyball team was on the verge of ending its season and dropping the first match at home in two years. Instead, the Gusties got gritty and battled tooth and nail to steal a five-set victory over St. Thomas to advance to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoff Championship. The Gusties dropped the first two sets 25-16, 29-27, but went on to claim victories of 25-22, 25-22, and 15-10. Gustavus now hosts Bethel at 7 p.m. Saturday in a rematch of last year’s MIAC Playoff Championship.

Baseball Hosts Instructional Camp Nov. 26

The Gustavus baseball coaching staff is set to host an instructional camp Nov. 26 at the Lund Athletic Center. The Gustie coaching staff will provide hitting, pitching, and fielding instruction, and give campers the opportunity to be coached by a college baseball staff.

Volleyball Hosts St. Thomas In MIAC Semifinal Match Tonight

After receiving the No. 2 seed for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoffs with a 9-2 record in the league, the Gustavus volleyball team is set to host No. 3 St. Thomas tonight in a semifinal match. The Gusties had a bye with the No. 2 seed, while the Tommies defeated No. 6 Concordia 3-0 Tuesday to advance to the semifinals. Tonight’s match begins at 7 p.m.
