SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Gustavus men’s and women’s swimming teams competed at the Mustang Invitational at Morningside College on Saturday. The women took third place out of eight teams, while the men took fourth place out of five teams. Augustana University won the women’s competition, while Iowa Central Community College won the men’s.

Kate Reilly (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) was the star on the women’s team, taking second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.55, fourth in the 100 butterfly at 1:04.22, was a member of the second place 200 freestyle relay team that finished in 1:43.44, as well as a member of the third place 200 medley relay team that finished in 1:56.28. Kennedy Holwerda (Jr., Willmar, Minn.), Nicole Lohman (Sr., North Mankato, Minn.), and Rachel Thate (Fy., North Mankato, Minn.) were the other members on the 200 free relay team, while Holwerda, Lohman, and Kate Tomsky (Sr., Libertyville, Ill.) comprised the 200 medley relay team.

Holwerda took third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.32, Jenna Muntifering (Sr., Buffalo, Minn.) took fourth in the 400 IM at 5:09.15, and Thate took fifth in the 500 freestyle in 5:37.31 as notable performers for the women’s squad.

On the men’s side, Anders Wallock (Jr., Wheaton, Ill.) took third place in the 400 IM (4:48.77) and eighth in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.65). Scott Nimke (So., Rochester, Minn.) place seventh in the 500 free, touching the wall in 5:22.24. Andrew Peters (So., Montevideo, Minn.) place ninth in the 200 backstroke at 2:11.47. Will Bragg (So., Eagan, Minn.) also took a ninth place finish in the 200 freestyle at 1:57.29. Bryce Carmichael (Sr., Stoughton, Ill.) finished ninth in the 100 breaststroke at 1:10.27 and tenth in the 200 IM at 2:15.12. The 200 free relay team of Adam Peters (Sr., Montevideo, Minn.), Ben Rorem (So., North Mankato, Minn.), Nimke, and Bragg took eighth in 1:37.08.

The diving teams competed at the Roger Ahlman Invitational, hosted by Macalester College. Carson Scholberg (So., Apple Valley, Minn.) won the men’s three-meter with a score of 222.55 and the one-meter at 245.45. Josh Theis (Fy., Henderson, Minn.) took third on the three-meter at 210.00. Jonathan Bovee (So., Farmington, Minn.) took second on the one-meter with a score of 228.85. Bekah Berry (So., St. Peter, Minn.) led the women’s team on the one-meter with a 173.70. Emma Silber took 11th at 143.60.

The Gusties next host the Grace Goblirsh Invitational on Nov. 19.
