NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s swimming and diving squad competed in a dual meet Friday night at St. Olaf College and escaped with a 152-148 victory.

“Pretty amazing night, lots of great racing,” said Head Coach Jon Carlson. “It was a true team effort, there were so many events that could have gone either way but the team showed a lot of heart, especially in the last 25 of virtually every race. The divers dove great, they were a very important element in our success tonight. I think it got the team pretty fired up for the rest of the season.”

As a team the Gusties tallied five top finishes. Hayley Booher (Sr., Warren, Vt.) and Haley Pesik (So., Eagan, Minn.) led the Black and Gold with two first place finishes each.

Booher raced to a first place finish in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstrokes with times of 1:02 and 2:14.52. Pesik earned first place crowns in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststrokes, posting times of 1:10.83 and 2:33.22.

Kate Reilly (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) also earned a first place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.74.

Additionally, the 200-yard medley relay team of Michelle Simms (So., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), Madeline Westendorp (Fy., St. Michael, Minn.), Kennedy Holwerda (Jr., Willmar, Minn.) and Maggie Webster (So., Apple Valley, Minn.) earned a first place finish with a finals time of 1:51.58.

Tomorrow the Gusties travel to Sioux City, Iowa to take part in the Morningside Invitational at 1 p.m.
