Second Half Surge Pushes Men’s Basketball Past Concordia In MIAC Opener

An 18-1 run midway through the second half provided more than enough of an advantage for the Gustavus men’s basketball team Wednesday night in its home and Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener against Concordia as the Gusties cruised to a 92-75 victory at Gus Young Court. The victory is the first for the Gusties early in the season as they improve to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the MIAC, while the Cobbers fall to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the league.

Men’s Basketball Hosts Home Opener Tonight Against Concordia

The Gustavus men’s basketball team hosts its home and Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener at 7:45 p.m. tonight against Concordia College. The Gusties enter the contest with a 0-2 overall record, while the Cobbers are 2-2 overall. Gustavus most recently lost 90-78 at Simpson College on Saturday, while Concordia defeated St. Scholastica 80-64 Saturday.

Mikayla Miller Named MIAC Women’s Basketball Athlete Of The Week

Mikayla Miller has been a key factor in Gustavus' perfect 5-0 start to the season as the team's leading scorer. Last week, Miller averaged 30.0 points per game after putting up a career-high 34 points in a 67-47 win against UW-La Crosse, followed by a 26-point performance in the Gusties' 83-71 win against Buena Vista. Miller missed only one of her 20 free throw attempts (.950) and was a perfect 12-for-12 from the charity stripe against Buena Vista. She also averaged 3.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds in those two games and shot 51.4 percent from the floor. Miller ranks second in the MIAC in scoring at 19.6 points per game.

Men’s Basketball Falls 90-78 At Simpson

The Gustavus men’s basketball team was unable to slow down Simpson’s late second half surge Saturday, dropping a 90-78 decision to fall to 0-2 overall. The Gusties came within six points of the lead midway through the second half, but the Storm were able increase their lead to double digits and held on to a comfortable advantage the rest of the way.
