ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s and women’s cross country squads are set to travel to Ettrick, Wis. on Saturday to compete in the Drews/Neubauer Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Ettrick Golf Club will host the men’s 8k and women’s 6k races. The men take off at 10:30 a.m., followed by the women at 11:30 a.m.
The Gustie men are ranked No. 32 in the latest USTFCCCA National Coach’s Poll, released October 12. Gustavus also sits at No. 4 out of 10 in the latest Central Region Rankings, released October 11. Loras College moved into the No. 1 spot, ahead of St. Olaf College.
Gustavus men and women most recently competed at the Running of the Cows on the campus of Carleton College two weekends ago.
The men’s team took second place out of 14 teams, scoring 128 points. Thomas Knobbe (Sr., Decorah, Iowa) paced the Gusties as he placed eighth overall with a time of 26:12.1. Evan Jones (Sr., Pella, Iowa) crossed the finish line next as he registered a 14th place finish with a time of 26:26.9.
The women’s team took seventh place out of 15 teams, scoring 210 points. Sadie Novak-Klug (Jr., Waseca, Minn.) led the Gusties with a 6k time of 23:58.4, good for a 21st place finish. Gabriela Passmore (Fy., Mapleton, Minn.) recorded the best time of her young career with a 29:34.4 finish to place 44th.
A year ago at the Drews/Neubauer Invitational, the Gustie men scored 186 points to take a seventh place finish out of 21 teams, placing three runners inside the top-30. The women also posted a seventh place finish, out of 22 teams and had two runners inside the top-20.
