COON RAPIDS, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s golf team teed off at the MIAC Championships Saturday at Bunker Hills Golf Club and sits in first place after the first round. The Gusties carded a 297, which is one stroke ahead of Saint John’s and two strokes ahead of St. Thomas.

“Our team goal was to be in the thick of it after the first day and I think you could say that is right where we are,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “Chris and Max set the tone for us today and put up a couple of good numbers. We’re looking forward to having our depth play into tomorrow’s team score. I thought the golf course was accessible today because of the recent rainfall. I think we got some first-day jitters out of the way and we are ready for round two.”

Chris Captain (Jr. Rochester, Minn.) is tied for second place after shooting a 72. Max Savini (So., Ramsey, Minn.) was right behind with a 73 and is tied for sixth. Ben Hauge (Fy., Ramsey, Minn.) is tied for 11th with a 75, Sam Majka (Sr., Wayzata, Minn.) is tied for 19th with a 77, and Alec Aunan (Jr. Rock Island, Ill.) is tied for 24th with a 78.

Cade Montplasir of Concordia leads the field after carding a 71.

Round two of the MIAC Championships begins tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
