Ashley Becker Named MIAC Women’s Soccer Athlete Of The Week

After a breakthrough 2015 season, Gustavus and Ashley Becker (So., Farmington, Minn.) appear to be ready for an encore performance in 2016. The Gusties and their sophomore goalkeeper posted back-to-back shutouts last week to start 2-0 for the first time since 2009. Becker made five saves in a 3-0 win over Nebraska Wesleyan Thursday, and she stayed perfect by tying her career high with nine saves in a tight 1-0 win over UW-LaCrosse Saturday. For her performance, Becker was named MIAC Women's Soccer Athlete-of-the-Week.

Brendan Boche Named MIAC Football Special Teams Athlete Of The Week

Brendan Boche had a perfect day kicking the football for Gustavus (1-0) in the team's 35-6 season-opening win over Westminster (Mo.). The Gustie junior was a perfect 5-for-5 on extra point attempts, and his kickoffs – six for 365 yards (60.8 average) with one touchback – played a big part in the field-position battle. For his performance, Boche was named MIAC Football Special Teams Athlete-of-the-Week.

Two-Match Week Ahead Of Women’s Soccer

The Gustavus women’s soccer team opens a two-match week as they travel to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Wednesday at 5 p.m. Friday, Gustavus hosts Crown College at 4 p.m. at Gustie Soccer Field.

Women’s Swimmer Kate Reilly Named Preseason All-American

CollegeSwimming.com announced its 2016-17 Division III Preseason All-America selections this week and Gustavus women’s swimmer Kate Reilly (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) was named to the All-America team in the 50 freestyle. Selections were based on the times of both returning and incoming swimmers with input from coaches and sports information contacts.

Men’s Golf Takes Third Of 16 At Transylvania Fall Invite

Going up against a competitive field at the Transylvania Fall Invite, the Gustavus men’s golf team finished in third place out of 16 teams with a three-round score of 305-292-294-891 (+27). Greensboro won the event with an 868, while Wittenberg took second with an 877.

Men’s Soccer Nipped By Knox 1-0

The Gustavus men’s soccer team generated a number of scoring chances late in the game Sunday against Knox College, but was unable to net the equalizer as the visitors walked away with a 1-0 victory. The loss drops the Gusties to 0-3 overall, while Knox moves to 2-0 and is named the Gustavus Classic champion.

Women’s Golf Finishes Tied For Fifth At CSB Invite

The Gustavus women's golf team completed the final round of the College of Saint Benedict Invite Sunday, finishing tied for fifth place at their first outing of the fall campaign.

The Gustavus women's golf team rests in sixth place after day one at the College of Saint Benedict Invite at Blackberry Ridge Golf Course in Sartell, Minn. Saturday. The Gusties shot a team score of 337, 49-over par.

Volleyball Caps Elmhurst Tournament With Pair Of Victories

The Gustavus volleyball team capped the Elmhurst Tournament with a pair of victories Saturday, defeating North Park 3-0 followed by a 3-1 win over Benedictine to improve to 3-1 overall.

Men’s And Women’s Cross Country Both Place Second At Crown Invite

The Gustavus men's and women's cross country teams both placed second at the Crown Invite on the campus of Crown College Saturday. Thomas Knobbe (Sr., Decorah, Iowa) led the Gusties, turning in a time of 26:46.4 to place second individually.
