ELK RIVER, Minn. – Through two rounds at the Twin Cities Classic, the Gustavus men’s golf team remains in first place after shooting a 294 in the second round – which was played at the Elk River Golf Course – for a total of 577 (+6), which is three strokes ahead of Saint John’s and five ahead of the University of Manitoba.

“Our guys battled hard today,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “The golf course was soft but did not play very easy with the wind and slight rain. We put together a pretty good team score and we need to come back tomorrow to our home course and put up a good number because this is a very good field and the results got tighter after today’s round.”

Alec Aunan (Jr., Rock Island, Ill.) tallied a 73 after a 67 yesterday and sits in second place with a four-under par 140. Ben Hauge (Fy., Ramsey, Minn.) shot a one-under par 71 today and is tied for fifth with a 144. Max Savini (So., Ramsey, Minn.) carded a 75 in the second round and sits in seventh place with a 145. Chris Captain (Jr., Rochester, Minn.) is tied for 22nd with a 150, while Sam Majka (Sr., Wayzata, Minn.) is one stroke behind with a 151 and is tied for 27th.

“It was nice to see Ben throw up an under-par round today,” Moe said. “It was tough to come back after a 67 yesterday, but Alec battled and posted a 73.”

The Twin Cities Classic concludes tomorrow at the Le Sueur Country Club. Tee times begin at 10 a.m.
