ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s and women’s track and field teams hosted the annual Lee Krough Invite on Saturday at the Gustavus Track & Field Complex. Thirteen teams competed in the meet, including Division II and III institutions from around the state.

The Gustie women had seven individuals and one relay place inside the top-5 of their respective races. In running events, the Gustavus 4×100 relay team took home a second place finish with a time of 50.49. Lauren Shurson (Sr., Chanhassen, Minn.) took bronze in the 5000 meter run with a 19:13.62, while Mata Agre (Sr., Corcoran, Minn.) and Lydia Hayes (So., Decorah, Iowa) took fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:56.69) and 800 meter run (2:20.81), respectively. Sadie Novak-Klug (So., Waseca, Minn.) and Megan Eckberg (So., Gaylord, Minn.) also took their spots inside the top-5 with fifth place finishes. Novak-Klug finished the 1500 meter run in 4:58.91 and Eckberg ran the 100 meter hurdles 16.21.

In the field, Sarah Swanson (Sr., Fairbanks, Alaska) took home a third place finish in the shot put with a throw of 12.90 meters, while Anna Neeser earned a fifth place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 10.62 meters.

ABC_9934The Gustie men also enjoyed plenty of success, taking six individual championships, 13 top-3 individual finishes, and two second place relay teams. Among the champions were Sam ReMine (Jr., Mantorville, Minn.) (400 meter dash – 50.30), Ed ReMine (Jr., Mantorville, Minn.) (400 meter hurdles – 56.58), Thomas Knobbe (Jr., Decorah, Iowa) (3000 meter steeplechase – 9:45.39), Joshua Curtis (Fy., Houston, Texas) (long jump – 6.51 meters), and Michael Hensch (Fy., North Branch, Minn.) (shot put – 13.98 meters).

Taking silver were the 4×100 (43.92) and 4×400 (3:27.15) meter relay teams, Bennet Woltjer (Sr., Kandiyohi, Minn.) (high jump – 1.87 meters), Sam Fischer (Sr., Sauk Centre, Minn.) (shot put – 13.87 meters), and Alex Logan (Sr., Chaska, Minn.) (discus – 44.05 meters).

Rounding out the top-3 finishers with bronze medals were Curtis (100 meter dash – 11.09), Carston Dammann (Jr., Lake City, Minn.) (1500 meter run – 4:13.61), and Andrew Puett (Fy., St. Michael, Minn.) (discus – 40.63 meters).

The Gusties are back in action next Saturday when it will send a squad to Northfield, Minn. for the Carleton Relays.
