Women’s Basketball Hangs On For 60-54 Win Over Augsburg

Despite a slow start, the Gustavus Adolphus College women's basketball team was able to come back and earn a 60-54 victory over Augsburg College on Saturday afternoon at Gus Young Court. The Gusties trailed 14-5 after the first quarter, but went on a 21-7 run in the second to take a 26-22 lead into halftime, and eventually earn the win. The Gusties improve to 12-5 overall and 7-3 in the MIAC with the victory, while Augsburg falls to 9-8 overall and 4-6 in the league.

Men’s Basketball Back On Track, Defeats Augsburg 90-76

The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s basketball team is back on track after three consecutive losses as it defeated Augsburg College 90-76 on Saturday afternoon at Gus Young Court. The victory pushes the Gusties to 6-10 overall, and 3-8 in the MIAC, while the Auggies drop to 10-6 overall, and 5-6 in the league.

Women’s Hockey Successful In Comeback Effort, Defeats St. Olaf 4-3

After falling behind 2-0 in the first period, the Gustavus Adolphus College women's hockey team used the power play to its advantage to complete a strong comeback effort and defeat St. Olaf College 4-3 on Friday evening at Don Roberts Ice Rink. Tied 3-3 going into the third period, the Gusties scored the game-winner 2:34 into the final period to bump their record to 5-7-4 overall and 4-2-3 in the MIAC. With the loss, the Oles fall to 1-14-1 overall and 0-8-1 in the conference.

Men’s Hockey Ties St. Olaf 3-3, Falls In Shootout

Although the Gustavus men’s hockey team led 3-1 late in the third period Friday night, St. Olaf picked up its sense of urgency in the final minute, scoring a goal with 20 seconds remaining and then put in the game-tying goal with two seconds on the clock to force overtime. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the overtime period and the game went to a shootout. The Oles made their first and third shots to claim the shootout victory and two points in the MIAC standings. The tie gives the Gusties one point in the league standings as they move to 3-10-3 overall and 2-4-1 in the MIAC.

Women’s Swimming & Diving In Second Of 13 Following Day One Of Grinnell Invite

he Gustavus Adolphus College women’s swimming and diving team is in second place with 506 points following the opening day of the Grinnell College Invitational being held over the weekend at the Grinnell Natatorium in the Charles Benson Bear ’39 Recreation and Athletic Center. The Gusties posted three event wins and a total of eight top-three finishes on day one of the 13-team meet. The University of Nebraska-Omaha leads the field with 630 points, while Grinnell rounds out the top-three with 392.

Men’s Swimming & Diving In Third Place After Day One At Grinnell Invite

The Gustavus men’s swimming and diving team sits in third place out of eight teams after day one at the Grinnell Invitational. The Gusties have a team score of 400, while host Grinnell is in first with 613 points and Nebraska Wesleyan is in second with 409 points.

Men’s Basketball Completes Season Series With Augsburg Saturday

The Gustavus men’s basketball team is back to the friendly confines of Gus Young Court at 1 p.m. Saturday for game two of the season series against Augsburg College. Augsburg won game one of the series 79-70 on Dec. 5 in Minneapolis. The Gusties enter the matchup with a 5-10 overall record and 2-8 mark in the MIAC, while the Auggies are 10-5 overall and 5-5 in the league.

MIAC Releases Fall Academic All-Conference Teams, 26 Gusties Honored

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honored the league’s top performers in athletics and in the classroom with the announcement of the 2015 Fall Academic All-Conference Teams on Friday.

Women’s Hockey Back In Action, Takes On St. Olaf This Weekend

The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s hockey team is back in action this weekend with a home-away series against St. Olaf College on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the Gusties will play at home at 7 p.m., and will travel to Northfield, Minn. on Saturday evening for a 7:30 p.m. faceoff. Gustavus enters the series with a 4-7-4 overall record, and 3-2-3 mark in the MIAC, while St. Olaf comes in with at 1-13-1 overall and 0-7-1 in the league.

Men’s Hockey Returns To MIAC Play This Weekend Against St. Olaf

The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s hockey team finalized its non-conference schedule last week and returns to MIAC play this weekend with an away-home series against St. Olaf College. The Gusties enter the series with a 3-10-2 overall record and 2-4 mark in the MIAC, while the Oles are 3-11-3 overall and 1-5-2 in the league. Gustavus is looking to break out of a five-game losing skid after most recently falling to UW-River Falls 3-0 last Saturday, while St. Olaf has dropped nine of its last 10 games, most recently losing to Saint John’s 7-2 last Saturday.
