CHIHUAHUA, Mexico – Four Gustavus Adolphus College football players have the tremendous honor to represent Team USA at the 2015 Aztec Bowl, which showcases the top Division II and III players from around the country against the Mexico National team. Gustavus’s representatives on the USA All American Eagles include wide receiver Matthew Boyce (Sr., Excelsior, Minn.), quarterback Mitch Hendricks (Sr., Bemidji, Minn.), and offensive linemen Marcus Kelly (Sr., Woodbury, Minn.) and Scott Newby (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.).

This year’s Aztec Bowl will be played at 12:05 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 at Olympic Stadium, home of the University of Mexico Pumas. The stadium holds 42,000 and this year’s game is expected to draw 30,000 fans. The Aztec Bowl has been played intermittently since 1954, with all but one of the games played at locations in Mexico. The lone exception was the 1957 game played in San Antonio, Texas.

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) is well represented at the Aztec Bowl. Joining the four Gusties on Team USA are Augsburg’s Ayrton Scott (QB) and Tyrell Martin (RB), Concordia’s Clay Bachmeier (OL) and Levi Hintermeister (LB), and St. Olaf’s Justin Schmid (OL) and Seamus Walsh (DB). Team USA this year is under the direction of Augsburg Head Coach Frank Haege. Assistants with Gustavus connections include Troy Hendricks (offense), Tom Kelly (offense), Joe Newby (defense) and Sue Hendricks (assistant trainer).
