Women’s Golf Takes Fourth At College City Challenge

HASTINGS, Minn. – Mae Meierhenry (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) led the Gustavus women’s golf team to a fourth place finish at the College City Challenge on Saturday and Sunday at the Bellwood Oaks Golf Club. Meierhenry tied or second place out of 74 golfers, shooting an 82 in round one, followed by a 76 on day two for a total of 158 (+12). As a team, the Gusties shot 330 in the first round and 325 in the second for a total of 655 (+71).

Carleton College won the event with a score of 644, while St. Catherine University took second at 647 and the University of St. Thomas took third at 652.

“The team struggled on the back nine on day one,” Assistant Coach Taylor Drenttel said. “They regrouped and determined a game plan to improve on day two, which they accomplished. Mae had and exciting second round that resulted in her second place finish. It was a great competition in preparation for the conference tournament this weekend.”

McKenzie Swenson (So., Buffalo, Minn.) tied or 13th place with a score of 80-84-164, Chloe Altmann (Sr., Olivia, Minn.) took 21st at 86-82-168, Ellie Brandt (Fy., Wayzata, Minn.) tied for 25th at 82-89-171, and Jessica Nelson (So., Wayzata, Minn.) tied for 28th at 89-83-172.

The Gusties return to action this weekend at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships played Oct. 3-5 at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids, Minn. Last season the Gusties placed fourth out of 11 teams. The last conference championship for Gustavus occurred in 2010.
