BLOOMINGTON, MINN. – Gustavus Adolphus women’s golfers Jordy Drenttel (Sr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn) and McKenzie Swenson (St. Louis Park, Minn.) have been named to the 2015 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) All-Conference Team that was announced Monday. The honor is the second in a row for Drenttel, while Swenson, a rookie, is making her first appearance on the squad.
This marked the second season the MIAC Golf All-Conference teams were selected using a combination of MIAC championship results and end-of-season voting. The top 10 finishers (including ties) at the MIAC Championships in October automatically earned All-MIAC honors, and the coaches nominated and voted to add five additional players based on their body of work throughout the season.
Drenttel led the Gusties in 2014-15 with a stroke average of 80.8 after 22 rounds, good for a tie for ninth in the conference. The Inver Grove Heights native placed ninth at the 2014 MIAC Championships in October where she posted a score of 242 (+26), and also led the team throughout the year with six finishes in the top 10 and four in the top five. Drenttel’s top performance came just weeks ago, when she tied for third place at the Carleton Invitational after totaling a 155 after two rounds.
In her rookie campaign, Swenson set a high ceiling for her career, as she concluded her season second on the team with an 81.3 stroke average after 22 rounds, good for 13th in the MIAC. The St. Louis Park product tied for second on the team with four top 10 finishes and two in the top five, including a third place finish at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Invitational in April where she shot a 74 on day one, her best round as a Gustie.
Carleton College headlined the conference awards, as it took home three-of-four top individual honors. The Knights’ Shannon Holden earned Player-of-the-Year honors, while teammate Kelsey Moede was named Senior-of-the-Year and head coach Eric Sieger took home Coach-of-the-Year honors.
As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC also announced the ninth annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team for women’s golf. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the course of competition. Representing Gustavus on this year’s squad was Drenttel.
