EAU CLAIRE, WIS. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team concluded its season by finishing second of 10 teams at the Blugold Invitational on Sunday at the Wild Ridge Golf Course. The Gusties totaled a 639 (+63) to finish eight shots behind the invitational’s champion, Carleton College, which scored a 627 (+51).

“This was a nice finish for our ladies,” said head coach Scott Moe. “We competed against a very strong field on a tough golf course. I am proud of our attitude, commitment and effort today.”

Senior Lauren Johnson (Plymouth, Minn.) led Gustavus again on day two, as she scored a 78 to total 155 (+11) and finish third in the individual standings. McKenzie Swenson (Fy., St. Louis Park, Minn.) was next in line with a 159 (t-8th), followed by seniors Jordy Drenttel (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and Sam Falk (Glenwood, Minn.) who scored 161 and 165 to finish in a tie for 12th and 24th, respectively. Mae Meierhenry (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) rounded out the Gustie scoring with a 167, good for 26th place. Jessica Nelson (Fy., Wayzata, Minn.), who was competing with the Gustavus Black team, finished with a 157 (+13), putting her in a tie for fifth place individually.

“We had some great individual play from Lauren and Jessica with their top-5 finishes,” said Moe. “It was nice to see them compete from start to finish and come away with a great result.”

Sunday also marked the final day of the careers of seniors Johnson, Drenttel, Falk and Liz Strom (Fargo, N.D.).

“It was sad to see our four seniors finish up their careers,” said Moe. “I couldn’t have asked for more from them. They are a great group that will be missed.”
