Men’s Golf To Cap Regular Season At StoneRidge Country Club On Friday

St. Peter, Minn. – With an open date still remaining in the 2014-15 regular season, the Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team is going to take advantage of it with an added competition. The Gusties will cap this year’s campaign at a quadrangular featuring Augsburg College, Bethel University, and UW-Eau Claire on Friday, May 1 at the StoneRidge Country Club in Stillwater, Minnesota.

The Gusties are most recently coming off a second place finish at the Saint John’s Spring Invitational held last weekend in St. Cloud and Monticello. The team turned in a three round 870 (+14) to place second overall and finish on the podium for the second straight weekend.

Rookie Alec Aunan (Rock Island, Ill.) provided a breakout performance last weekend by finishing second overall with a one-under-par 213. Andrew Brandt (Jr., Medina, Minn.), Chris Captain (Fr., Rochester, Minn.), and Matt Spier (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) came in behind Aunan with five-over 219s (12th).

In its four spring tournaments, Head Coach Scott Moe’s squad finished eighth with a 623 (+47) at the Emory Invitational (13 teams), sixth with a 651 (+75) at the Augustana Invitational (21 teams), tied for first with a 924 (+68) at the Bobby Krig Invitational (15 teams), and second with an 870 (+14) at the Saint John’s Invitational (18 teams). The Gusties currently boast a team stroke average of 305.9.

Friday’s quadrangular will begin with the first group teeing off at 11:00 a.m. The StoneRidge Country Club is a par 72. Stay tuned to the Gustavus athletics website for results and a full recap.
