Minneapolis – The Gustavus Adolphus softball team capped the 2015 regular season with a sweep over the College of St. Scholastica on Monday evening at the University of Minnesota’s Jane Sage Cowles Field. Gustavus won 7-3 in game one and then went on to complete the sweep with a 3-2 win in game two.

Gustavus enters the MIAC Playoffs with an overall record of 30-14, reaching the 30-win mark for the first time since the 2012 season. St. Scholastica moves to 27-13 with the losses.

Game One Recap

The Gusties scored seven unanswered runs before St. Scholastica got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning. Gustavus scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning thanks to runs driven in by Nathalee Boissiere (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) and Jena Willis (So., Glacier, Mont.).

The Gusties extended their lead to 3-0 in the third when Shelby Nosan (Sr., Baudette, Minn.) drove in a run.  They then capped their seven-run scoring-spree with four runs in the fourth. Rachel Malo (So., Owatonna, Minn.) drove in a run with a single, and Nosan put the Black and Gold on top 7-0 with a three run home run.

Malo finished the game 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs, and a RBI, and Nosan went 1-for-3 with a run and four RBI.

Hannah Heacox (So., Stillwater, Minn.) started the game and allowed two hits in two innings. Willis picked up the victory (5-4) after giving up three runs on seven hits in the remaining five innings.

Game Two Recap

After Gustavus took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a one-run double by Kailey Morgan (Sr., Mound, Minn.), St. Scholastica answered in the bottom of the inning two runs to go up 2-1.

Following two scoreless innings, the Gusties scored two runs to bring the game to a final at 3-2. Jessica Williams (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) scored an error to tie the game at 2-2, and then Rachel Malo came across for what was the game-winning run on another Saint error.

Sarah Rozell (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) went the distance to improve to 11-6 with the win. She allowed two runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
