Men’s Golf Caps Training Trip With Eighth Place Finish At Emory Invite Posted on April 7th, 2015 by

Adairsville, Ga., – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team capped off its training trip with an eighth place finish at the Emory University Spring Invitational held on April 6-7 at the Barnsley Gardens Resort.  In what was their first tournament of the spring season, the Gusties shot a 316 on day one and then improved with a 307 on day two to finish with a 623 (+47).

Methodist University won the 13-team meet with a two-day 592 (+10).  Berry College finished runner-up with a 601 (+25), and Guilford College and LaGrange College tied for third with a 606 (+30).

Individually, Gustavus was led by Chris Captain (Fr., Rochester, Minn.) who placed 25th overall  the with a 155 (+11).  After shooting a ten-over 82 on Monday, Captain improved with a one-over 73 on Tuesday.

Matt Spier (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.), Andrew Brandt (Jr., Medina, Minn.), and Alec Aunan (Fr., Rock Island, Ill.) all shot 156s (+12) over the course of the outing to finish in 27th.  Matt Rastetter (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.) rounded out the team in 55th with a 165 (+21).

Taking home individual medalist honors with identical 144s (E) was John Grimes of Greensboro and Jackson Collier of Methodist.

The Gustavus men’s golf team will once again hit the road on April 10-11 when it travels to Rock Island, Illinois to participate in the Augustana College (Ill.) Invitational being held at the Pinnacle Country Club.
