Oshkosh, Wis. – The Gustavus Adolphus gymnastics team capped the regular season with a 182.150-179.300 defeat at the hands of UW-Oshkosh on Friday, March 6 in the Kolf Sports Center. With their regular season schedule now in the rearview mirror, the Gusties will gear up for the WIAC Championships set to take place on the campus of Hamline University in St. Paul on March 15.
Sophomore Alex Kopp (Wayzata, Minn.) turned in what was perhaps her best overall performance of the season, earning gold in two events and achieving season-best marks in two as well. Kopp achieved a place at the top of the podium in the vault with a score of 9.450 and the balance beam with a score of 9.525. She also took third in the floor exercise (9.350) and fifth on the uneven parallel bars (8.825) to end the night with a runner-up effort in the all-around with a score of 37.150. Kopp’s numbers on the beam and in the all-around were season-bests.
Other individual event winners included UW-Oshkosh’s Leane Blais on the bars (9.300), Krystal Walker on the floor (9.425) and all-around (37.325).
The Gusties posted individual event team scores of 46.050 on the vault, 42.375 on the bars, 45.575 on the beam, and 45.300 on the floor. Gustavus’s score on the beam demolished its previous season-best of 43.800 recorded on Jan. 23 in a dual against UW-Stout.
UW-Oshkosh scored a 45.625 on the vault, 44.425 on the bars, 46.000 on the beam, and 46.100 on the floor.
Other top Gustavus performances were provided by Lauren Kershner (So., Marine, Ill.), Emily Anderson (Fy., Mendota Heights, Minn.), and Rachel Thiner (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.). Kershner finished fourth on the beam (9.125) and fifth on the vault (9.175), Anderson went fourth on the vault (9.200), and Thiner took fourth on the floor (9.325).
