Women’s Basketball Closes Regular Season Against Saint Ben’s On Saturday Posted on February 20th, 2015 by

Seniors Emily FitzSimmons and Maddie Ehrich will be honored as a part of Senior Day on Saturday at Gus Young Court.

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s basketball team will cap the regular season with a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference test against the Blazers of the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 1:00 p.m.  The Gusties head into the weekend alone in third place in the conference standings at 17-7 overall and 11-6 in the MIAC.  Saint Benedict has been eliminated from postseason contention in seventh place at 11-13 overall and 8-9 in the MIAC.

With a home playoff spot secured despite Saturday’s outcome, the Gusties enter Saturday looking to cap the regular season with three straight wins.  Gustavus was most recently in action on Wednesday, defeating Macalester 69-49 in what was game two of a current three-game homestand.

The Blazers will attempt to finish their 2014-15 campaign on a high note after suffering two straight losses to Carleton (56-55) and Augsburg (47-37).  The Blazer offense struggled at home on Wednesday against the Auggies, going just 13-for-47 (27.7%) from the field.

In the series-opener between the two teams earlier this season on Jan. 17 in St. Joseph, the Gusties were able to gut out a 55-52 win thanks to a strong defensive effort and clutch shooting in the final minute of the game.
