Northfield, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s indoor track and field team posted a score of 125.50 to finish fourth at the Kelly Family Meet of the Hearts held Saturday, Feb. 14 in the Carleton College Recreation Center. Hamline University won the quadrangular with a score of 179, Carleton College finished second with a 144, and Luther College took third with a 126.50.
Leading the Gustie men with two individual event victories was sophomore Sean O’Connell (St. Peter, Minn.). O’Connell out-sprinted the field in both the 55-meter dash in 6.67 and the 200-meter dash in 22.91.
The Gusties ended up with a total of five top three finishes on the track. Sam ReMine (So., Mantorville, Minn.), Jon Surber (So., Kasson, Minn.), Ryley Sandberg (Fr., Alleman, Iowa), and Thomas Knobbe (So., Decorah, Minn.) all recorded a third place finish in their respective race. Remine went 52.69 in the 400-meter dash, Surber recorded a 2:39.03 in the 1,000-meter run, Sandberg turned in a 4:33.24 in the mile, and Knobbe registered an 8:57.10 in the 3,000-meter run.
Senior Jesse Scheiterlein (Sartell, Minn.) led the way in the field events with a runner-performance in the weight throw with a toss of 48-feet 9-inches. Derek Huntley (So., Maplewood, Minn.) cleared 13-feet 6.25-inches in the pole vault to take third in the event.
The Gustavus indoor track and field teams will get back to work next Saturday, Feb. 21 when they travel to Collegeville, Minnesota for the Saint John’s/Saint Ben’s Quadrangular.
