Matt Boyce, Mitch Hendricks, and Gabriel Boyce have all earned a spot on the D3football.com All-West Region Team.

Minneapolis – Three Gustavus Adolphus football players have been named to the D3football.com 2014 All-West Region Team. Wide receiver Matt Boyce (Excelsior, Minn.) earned a place on the First Team Offense, while quarterback Mitch Hendricks (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) and wide receiver Gabriel Boyce (Jr., Excelsior, Minn.) garnered Third Team Offense distinction.

The teams, selected in balloting by West Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 228 nominations by Division III member schools. A total of 77 players were chosen.

One of the premier downfield threats in the country, Matt Boyce earns first team recognition after putting together one of the finest seasons ever by a Gustavus receiver. Boyce caught 78 passes for 1,196 yards to go along with a school-record 17 touchdowns. He eclipsed 100 yards receiving in six games and caught two or more touchdown passes six times as well. Against Crown and Augsburg, Boyce caught three touchdowns and racked up more than 150 yards. He averaged 119.6 yards per game and 15.3 yards per catch.

The architect of the Gustie Air Raid, Mitch Hendricks had a breakout season and established himself as one of the top passing quarterbacks in NCAA Division III. Hendricks went 271-for-405 (66.9%) for 3,405 yards to go along with 35 passing touchdowns. He averaged 340.3 passing yards per game, ran for four rushing touchdowns, and threw for 300 yards in five games and three or more touchdowns in seven. During what was a historic season, Hendricks set new program standards in passing yards, completions, attempts and passing touchdowns.

A constant underneath threat and a nightmare for defenders in the open field, Gabriel Boyce’s quickness and sure hands helped the junior transfer stand out in his first season in the program. Gabriel caught a team-best 89 passes for a total of 1,057 yards, averaging 105.7 yards per game and 11.9 yards per catch. He also surpassed 100 yards receiving in four games and caught at least nine passes in eight.

The All-America teams will be announced on Friday, Dec. 19, at the Stagg Bowl in Salem, Va.

What’s missing here is the outstanding job the offensive line did this season!!

None of these accolades happen without the unbelievable job done by the O line and the coaches.
