St. Peter, Minn. – Sophomore cross country runner Thomas Knobbe (Decorah, Iowa) and first-year basketball player Mikayla Miller (Goodhue, Minn.) have been selected as the Gustavus Adolphus College November Male and Female Student-Athletes-of-the-Month, as selected by the Gustavus Sports Information Department.

Sophomore runner Thomas Knobbe kicked off November by leading the Gusties to a sixth place finish at the MIAC Championships on Nov. 1. He earned All-Conference honors for the first time in his career after finishing 11th with a time of 25:35.6. The Decorah, Iowa native continued to impress at the NCAA Central Region Championships (Nov. 15) where he was once again the top runner on a Gustavus team that finished 10th out of 27 competing teams. Knobbe crossed the finish line in 26th with a time of 25:40.9 to become Gustavus’s first All-Region performer since Dan Foley placed 14th in 2008. Thomas was then selected to compete in the 2014 NCAA Division III Championships on Nov. 22 in Mason, Ohio where he finished 136th out of 280 runners with a time of 25:34.3. He is the first Gustie to post a finish at the NCAA Championships since Chris deLaubenfels took 54th in 2007.

Rookie guard Mikayla Miller led Gustavus’s offense in all five of team’s November games, helping the Gusties begin their 2014-15 campaign with a record of 4-1. After scoring 17 points in the season-opener against Crown, Miller dropped 30 points against Martin Luther the following day, becoming the eighth player in Gustavus women’s basketball history to reach the 30-point mark in a single game. In that game, she was 9-for-22 from the field with the majority of her damage coming at the free throw line where she went 12-for-12. Overall in November, the Goodhue, Minnesota product scored more than 20 points three times and averaged 21.4 points per game (2nd/MIAC). She shot 42.5-percent from the field, 34.5-percent from three-point range, and 85.2-percent at the line. Miller also leads the team in rebounding (32), assists (19), steals (15), and minutes per game (30.2)
