Swimming & Diving To Host Grace Goblirsch Memorial Invitational On Saturday Posted on November 21st, 2014 by

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are set to host the first Grace Goblirsch Memorial Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Vic Gustafson Pool.  The event honors former Gustavus swimmer Grace Goblirsch who passed away on August 23, 2013 after losing an eight-month battle with acute myelogenous leukemia.  Competing in Saturday’s meet alongside Gustavus will be the Red Men and Lady Reds of Carthage College, the Mustangs of Morningside College, and the Cardinals of Saint Mary’s University.

The day will begin with diving events at 9:15 a.m. followed by the men’s and women’s 1,650 freestyle races at 10:00 a.m.  The remaining races will begin later in the afternoon at 1:30 p.m.

The Gustavus is coming off a busy weekend during which it participated in a pair of meets.  On Friday, Nov. 14, the Gusties squared off against St. Olaf in dual held in Northfield.  The women’s team defeated the Oles 184.5-114.5 , while the men suffered a 188-92 loss.  On Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Morningside Invitational, the women placed first out of seven teams with a team score of 764.5, while the men finished fourth out of six teams with a 406.

Carthage took on the Illinois Institute of Technology in a dual its last time out on Nov. 8. The Red Men won 195- 84, while the Lady Reds were victorious 229-50. Neither Carthage’s men’s or women’s teams have lost this season.  The Morningside swimming & diving teams were last in action on Saturday, Nov. 15 when they hosted the Morningside Invite. The men won the meet with a team score of 661, while the women finished fourth with a team score of 230.  The Saint Mary’s men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams most recently competed in the Macalester Invitational on Nov. 15. The men finished fifth with 81 points, while the women took sixth with 116.5 points.
