St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s soccer team will travel to Menomonie, Wisconsin for its final non-conference match of the 2014 season on Wednesday when it takes on UW-Stout on Wednesday at 7 p.m. After being defeated in its past five matches, including a 1-0 double overtime heartbreaker to Macalester College on Saturday, Gustavus heads into the weekend at 1-10-3 overall. UW-Stout will come into Wednesday’s contest at 3-8-3 overall after suffering a 1-0 defeat to UW-Whitewater in its last outing on Satruday evening in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

Gustavus: Gustavus forward Jana Elliott (So., Eagan, Minn.) had an opportunity to give the Gusties their first conference victory of the season on a shot two minutes into the second overtime period, but Scot goalkeeper it just missed wide right to extend the game. Less than two minutes later, Macalester took advantage when Scot senior midfielder Hannah Walker received a cross from teammate Hannah Pollard-Garber to score her second goal of the season and seal the game for Macalester.
UW-Stout: After a scoreless regulation period and first overtime session, UW-Whitewater’s Jordan Jackson headed a shot into the goal at 102:11 to seal the victory for the Warhawks. UW-Whitewater came into Saturday’s contest ranked 16th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire NCAA Division III Top 25.
Series History
Wednesday’s match marks the ninth ever meeting between Gustavus and UW-Stout in women’s soccer. Gustavus holds the advantage in the all-time series with a record of 4-2-2. The last time these two teams met was on Labor Day 2013 in St. Peter, where the Gusties came away with a 4-2 victory. Gustavus got out to a 1-0 lead heading into halftime, but the Blue Devils came back to tie the game up 15 minutes into the second half. Gustavus opened the match with a 2-0 lead, before UW-Stout scored two unanswered goals to create a 2-2 tie in the 77th minute. Gustavus wasted no time in getting back on the scoreboard, however, then-senior Amanda Cartony booted her second goal of the game at 81:45 to give the Gusties a permanent lead and the victory.
