Men’s Golf To Host Twin Cities Classic In Final Warmup Before MIAC Championships

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team is set to host the 2014 Twin Cities Classic this weekend from Saturday, Sept. 27 through Monday, Sept. 29. Day one will be held at the Elk River Golf Club in Elk River, day two will be held at the Links at Northfork in Ramsey, and day three will be held at the Dellwood Country Club in Dellwood.

Competing teams at this weekend’s tournament include Saint John’s University, Illinois Wesleyan University, University of Dubuque, University of St. Thomas, UW-Eau Claire, Bethany Lutheran College, Augsburg College, University of Manitoba, St. Olaf College, Luther College, Buena Vista University, Wartburg College, Milwaukee School of Engineering, and Carleton College.

The Gustavus men’s golf team is coming off a fifth place finish with a two-day team score of 613 (+45) at the Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational held at the Eau Claire Golf & Country Club last weekend. Posting the team’s top score last weekend in Eau Claire was Alec Aunan (Fr., Rock Island, Ill.) who played as an individual and recorded a six-over-par 148 for a fifth place finish. Andrew Krasaway (Jr., Hermantown, Minn.) also finished inside the top 10 with an eighth place performance after carding a seven-over 149.

This weekend at the Twin Cities Classic, Head Coach Scott Moe will go with a lineup that features Matt Spier (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.), Chris Captain (Fr., Rochester, Minn.), Andrew Krasaway, Andrew Brandt (Jr., Medina, Minn.), and Matt Rastetter (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.). Spier and Captain lead the group with season stroke averages of 77.0 (+5) and 77.3 (+6), respectively. Krasaway ranks third on the team with a 77.6 (+6) average, while Brandt and Rastetter fall next in line with 77.9 (+6) averages.

The University of Manitoba heads into the weekend looking to defend its 2013 Twin Cities Classic title after winning the event last year with a three-day team score of 903. Brady Hanson of UW-Eau Claire was last year’s individual medalist after firing a four-over 218.

The Elk River Golf Club is a par 72 at 6,570 yards, the Links at Northfork is a par 72 at 6,982 yards, and the Dellwood Country Club is a par 72 at 6,875 yards.
