Altoona, Wis. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team dropped two spots into a fifth place standing after shooting a 307 on the final day of the Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Invite held Sunday and Monday at the Eau Claire Golf & Country Club. With a 305 on day one, Gustavus finished the tournament with a two-day total 615 (+45).

Bethel University stayed the course and won 15-team meet with a 295-286—581 (+13). Central College finished runner up with a 596 (+28), while the University of St. Thomas rounded out the top three in third with a 604 (+36).

“We weren’t able to score and take advantage of great scoring conditions as a few other teams did today,” said Assistant Coach Randy Stuckey. “I’m really pleased with Alec Aunan’s performance, playing as an individual and shooting a 71.”

Alec Aunan (Fr., Rock Island, Ill.) turned in the team’s lowest score of the day with an even-par 71 – his season-best and Gustavus’s lowest best round of the tournament. Paired with his 77 (+6) on day one, Aunan finished in a tie for fifth place with a 148 (+6). Also breaking into the top ten was Andrew Krasaway (Jr., Hermantown, Minn.). Following up his best tournament-round of the year with a three-over-par 74 on Sunday, Krasaway posted a four-over 75 on Monday to finish eighth overall. It was both Auan and Krasaway’s first top ten finish at a tournament this fall.

Earning the top two spots on the podium was the Bethel pair of AJ Oster and Grant Exted. Oster took home medalist honors with a 143 (+1), and Exted finished second with a 144 (+2). Cameron Farrell of Nebraska Wesleyan and Desmond Stoll of Central tied for third with 147s (+5).

“Several players are starting to step up as we finished with two big tournaments this weekend at our Twin Cities Classic and the MIAC Championships the following week,” Stuckey added. “Once again, the guys were committed to their shots and decisions on the course – a much-improved performance overall this weekend.”

The Twin Cities Classic will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27 through Monday, Sept. 29. Day one will be held at the Elk River Golf Course in Elk River, day two will be held at the Links at Northfork in Ramsey, and day three will be held at Dellwood Country Club in Dellwood.
