St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s soccer team will travel to Moorhead, Minnesota to face the Cobbers of Concordia College on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 3:00 p.m. The Gusties head into the weekend with an overall record of 7-2-0 and an MIAC mark of 1-0-0 following a 3-1 victory over Carleton College in their MIAC-opener on Wednesday afternoon in St. Peter. Concordia heads into conference-play seeking its first victory of the season with an overall record of 0-6-0. The Cobbers were in action this past weekend when they traveled to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where the team suffered a 2-1 loss to Centenary (La.) and a 6-0 defeat at the hands of Colorado College.
“If you want to be considered the best, you have to show it when you cross the white line – whoever you play,” Head Coach Mike Middleton said about Saturday’s match. “This will be a tough, difficult match. Much more difficult than some may believe. Take it lightly and you will be in for a shock. Concordia will give us everything its got and Coach Schneweis has the team displaying a great work ethic and a hearty appetite for the contest. Their players would run through a wall to get the job done. Additionally, their field is small and narrow, and the surface is perhaps not the best. This is a banana skin of the first order and we underestimate this team at our peril.”
“I will push them, cajole them, needle them, and encourage them to put out their best performance,” Middleton continued. “That means little if they do not display the heart – it has has to come from within each individual. Each one has to show the heart for the contest, and this game will go a long way in proving that they have it. We’ll have our answer around 5:00 p.m. this Saturday afternoon.”
