Volleyball Back At Home For Non-Conference Match Against Waldorf Posted on September 19th, 2014 by

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus volleyball team will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 20 when it plays host to the Warriors of Waldorf College at 3:00 p.m. on Gus Young Court.

Gustavus heads into the match with an overall record of 5-8 after defeating St. Catherine 3-1 in its last time out at home on Wednesday. Waldorf has an overall record of 4-10 after snapping a four-match losing-streak with a 3-0 win over William Penn on Wednesday at home in Forest City, Iowa.

The Series…
Saturday’s matchup will be the fourth meeting between Gustavus and Waldorf in volleyball. The Gusties hold the upper hand in all three matches with a 3-0 record. In the last meeting between the two teams on Sept. 14, 2012 at the UW-River Falls Invitational, Gustavus won 3-1 via set scores of 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, and 25-15.

Ones To Watch…
– Abby Leitch (Fy., DS, Mankato, Minn.) | Recently moved into libero role. She has reached the 20-dig mark the past three matches and is averaging 22.3 digs over that time-span. In Wednesday night’s win over St. Kate’s, Leitch posted a game/season-high 23 digs and finished with a perfect serving percentage on her 16 serve attempts.
– Courtney Palmer (Sr., OH, Rochester, Minn.) | Led the team as the only Waldorf player with double-figure kills in Wednesday’s win over William Penn. Palmer has led the Waldorf offense the past two matches, recording a season-best 13 kills against Clarke on Sept. 10. She currently has 88 kills with a .089 attack percentage.

The number of matches in a row that the Gustavus volleyball team has posted a better hitting percentage than its opponent. The Gusties are averaging an attack percentage of .183 over their last three matches.
12 – The number of points Paige Breneman’s serve was responsible for on Wednesday night against St. Kate’s. Breneman served a team-high 20 times, making just one error to go along with one ace to finish with a serve percentage of .950. Late in the third set she served seven straight points that put Gustavus on top 22-19.
4-2 – Gustavus’s record on Saturdays this season.  Today’s match will be Gustavus’s first non-conference test in a dual, non-tournament setting.
