Women’s Soccer Hosts Concordia On Saturday Posted on September 19th, 2014 by

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s soccer team will host Concordia College on Saturday afternoon on the Gustie Soccer Field at 1 p.m. Gustavus enters the contest with a record of 0-3-2 (0-0-1 MIAC), while Concordia comes in at 5-1-0 (1-0-0 MIAC).

Match Information:
Field: Gustie Soccer Field
Playing Surface: Natural Grass

Last Time Out:
Gustavus:
In its first MIAC match this past Wednesday against Carleton, Gustavus got off to a great start when sophomore forward Maddison Ackiss (Fairbanks, Alaska) was able to control a deflection off of Carleton goalkeeper Mikayla Coulombe and put it away at the 5:15 mark to give Gustavus a 1-0 lead.

After shutting the Knight attackers out for nearly all the match and just when a Gustavus victory looked be all but in the bag, disaster struck inside the final minute.  Carleton senior forward Ellie Wilson was able to bury a cross from teammate Bailey Ulbricht with less than 30 seconds remaining and tie the match at 1-1. Overtime ensued, but neither team could find the net.

Concordia: In its MIAC-opener against St. Catherine on Wednesday in Moorhead, Concordia sophomore forward Emily Wendorff scored both goals to give Concordia the 2-0 victory.  Wendorff scored in the 22nd and 50th minutes for what were her second and third goals in the last two matches.  Goalkeeper Elizabeth Bitzan earned the complete-match shutout after making a total of three saves.

Series History:
Saturday marks the 41st meeting between Gustavus and Concordia in women’s soccer.  The Gusties hold the advantage in the all-time series with a record of 21-14-5.  In 2013, Concordia came away with a 2-0 win in Moorhead.  The last time Gustavus defeated Concordia was in 2002 season when the Gusties came away with a 4-1 victory in St. Peter.  Since that time, Gustavus has gone 0-8-2 against the Cobbers.
