Women’s Golf Turns In Third Place Finish At Augustana Invitational

Sioux Falls, S.D. – The Gustavus women’s golf team concluded its weekend in South Dakota with a third place finish at the Augustana Fall Invitational on Sunday afternoon. After shooting a 321 on Saturday, Gustavus followed up on day two with 332 to total a 653 (+85) for the weekend. Host Augustana won the meet by totaling a 609 (+41), and Minnesota State University, Mankato finished second with a score of 641 (+73). 

The Gusties were led by Mae Meierhenry (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) in Sunday’s final round and in the tournament. Meierhenry recorded a six-over-par 77 to follow an eight-over-par 79 in yesterday’s opening round.  Meierhenry’s weekend total of 156 (+14) was good for a sixth place finish in the individual standings.

McKenzie Swenson (Fy., St. Louis Park, Minn.) followed Meierhenry by shooting an 86 (+15) on Sunday to give herself a total of 161 (+19) on the weekend for a 14th place finish overall. Chloe Altmann (Jr., Olivia, Minn.) joined Swenson and Meierhenry in the top-20 by tying for 18th after shooting a 164 (+22).

Gustavus will return to the course on Sept. 14-15 when it heads to South Bend, Indiana for the O’Brien Invitational set to be held at the Warren Golf Course on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. Sunday’s round begins with tee times at 11 a.m., while Monday will feature a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
