St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s outdoor track and field team recorded eight individual top-three finishes at the 14th Annual Drake Alternative, which the Gusties hosted on Saturday afternoon at the Gustavus Outdoor Track and Field Complex. No team scores were kept at the meet.
Cameron Clause (Sr., Mankato, Minn.) led the way for the Black and Gold with three top-five performances. The highlight for Clause came in the pole vault where he grabbed gold with a vault of 15-feet eight-inches. Clause took home the bronze in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.55 and added to his list of top-five performances with a fifth place finish in the long jump after a leap of 21-feet 11-inches.
Jordan Lovestrand (Fr., Bloomington, Minn.) also stood out with a pair of finishes inside the top five. Lovestrand was victorious in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.97, and finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.80.
Nick Carlson (Jr., Roseville, Minn.) was the top thrower for the Gusties with a second place finish in the javelin with a toss of 181-feet. Ryan Obele (Sr., Le Sueur, Minn.) and Jesse Scheiterlein (Jr., Sartell, Minn.) also provided top marks in the throws. Obele finished fourth in the hammer (157’03”), while Scheiterlein came in directly behind him in fifth (152’04”).
Six of the Gusties’ eight top-three performances on Saturday came on the track. Leighton Becher (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) placed second in the steeplechase with a time of 10:04.01. Tanner Davenport (Sr., Ham Lake, Minn.) ran a 4:06.52 to finish second in the 1,500-meter run. Thomas Knobbe (Fr., West Des Moines, Iowa) recorded a second place finish as he ran a 16:01.58 in the 5,000-meter run, and Joe Renier (Sr., Cambridge, Minn.) rounded out the group behind Knobbe with a third place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:05.03.
The Gustavus men’s track and field team will be back in action on Wednesday, April 30 when it competes in the Minnesota State University, Mankato Twilight Meet in Mankato.
