Northfield, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s track and field team scored 84.5 points to finish fourth out of 10 competing teams at the Carleton Relays held Saturday at Laird Stadium. Host Carleton College won the meet with 103 points, the University of Minnesota placed second with 90 points, and St. Olaf rounded out the top three in third with 88 points.
Blair Riegel (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) led the team with three finishes inside the top six. Riegel finished sixth in the 200-meter dash (23.92), third in the long jump (20’ 10.5”), and fourth in the triple jump (42’ 9.5”).
Jordan Lovestrand (Fr., Bloomington, Minn.) had a good afternoon in the hurdle races, placing second in the 400-meter in 55.28 and fifth in the 110-meter in 15.98. Scott Williams (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) also placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.88.
Other top runners on the track included Thomas Knobbe (Fr., West Des Moines, Iowa) and Tanner Davenport (Sr., Ham Lake, Minn.). Knobbe took fourth in the steeplechase with a time of 10:14.90, and Davenport came in sixth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:07.77.
Jeffrey Dubose (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) and Derek Huntley (Fr., Maplewood, Minn.) finished back-to-back in the pole vault. Dubose cleared 15-feet to take second, and Huntley went over at 14-feet to take third.
Nick Carlson (Jr., Fridley, Minn.) placed fourth in the javelin (145’ 8”), Naga Rumicho (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.) finished fifth in the high jump (6’ 0”), Ryan Obele (Sr., Le Sueur, Minn.) took fifth in the hammer throw (160’ 2”), and Alex Logan (So., Chaska, Minn.) came in sixth in the discus (138’ 1”).
The Gustavus track and field team will be in action next weekend when it hosts the Drake Alternative on Saturday, April 26 in St. Peter. Select members of the team will also compete in the Drake Relays being held April 24-26 in Des Moines, Iowa.
