Peoria, Ariz. – After combining for a team score of 318 (+34) yesterday, the Gustavus women’s golf team came back to post a 319 (+35) in difficult conditions on Saturday to take fourth in the George Fox Westbrook Invitational. The weekend total of 637 (+69) placed fourth, 15 strokes behind Washington University, St. Louis, who won the tournament with a 622 (+54) after posting a 318 (+34) on Saturday.
“It was a great team effort today,” mentioned assistant coach Jordan Hawkinson. “It was windy throughout the morning and conditions were tough all day. We set a goal to shoot under 320 today and we accomplished that, so we feel good about how we performed today.”
Sam Falk (Jr., Glenwood, Minn.) led the way for the second straight day for the Gusties. Falk followed yesterday’s 74 (+3) with a 76 (+5) on Saturday to place third in the individual standings with a weekend total of 150 (+8).
Lauren Johnson (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) followed with the team’s second-best round of the day. Johnson was the only other Gustie to break 80 with a seven-over-par 78 to give her a total of 162 strokes (+20) on the weekend. She, along with teammate Jordan Drenttel (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), finished tied for 17th on the weekend. Drenttel paired rounds of 82 (+11) on Friday and 80 (+9) on Saturday for her 162 (+20).
Gustavus will be back in action again on April 4th when they travel to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., for a dual against Flagler College.
