Cameron Clause earned All-America distinction in the heptathlon for the second straight season this weekend at the NCAA Championships.

Lincoln, Neb. – Gustavus Adolphus track and field athlete Cameron Clause (Sr., Mankato, Minn.) highlighted the 2014 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships with an All-American performance in the heptathlon.  Clause scored a total of 5,065 points over the course of the two-day meet to place fourth overall.

The NCAA Championships were held March 14-15 at the University of Nebraska’s Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln.

Coming off a heptathlon performance at the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships that earned him the distinction of the league’s Most Outstanding Field Athlete after what was named the Most Outstanding Performance-of-the-Meet, Clause didn’t disappoint at the final NCAA indoor meet of his career.

Clause’s best showings came in the 1,000-meter run and the pole vault.  He finished runner-up in both, recording a time of 2:39.42 in the 1,000-meter for 880 points and going over the bar at 15-feet 1-inch for 790 points.

He also finished ninth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.69, 816 pts.), 11th in the 60-meter dash (7.31, 775 pts.), high jump (5’ 11.25”, 636 pts.), and long jump (20’ 7.75”, 650 pts.), and 15th in the shot put (34’ 6.75”, 518 pts.).

Clause’s score of 5,065 this weekend ranks second in Gustavus history behind his 5,088 posted at this year’s MIAC Championships.  The Mankato product is now a two-time All-American in the heptathlon after finishing fifth in the event with a score of 4,912 last year.  Clause is also Gustavus’s first repeat All-American since Luke Speltz earned the distinction in the weight throw in 2002 and 2003.

In addition to Clause’s outing, sophomore thrower Sarah Swanson (Fairbanks, Alaska) also competed at the NCAA Championships.  Swanson came in 16th overall in the shot put with a throw of 42-feet 8-inches – her second best toss of the season.
