Ed Saugestad Cup On The Line Saturday At St. Thomas Ice Arena Posted on March 7th, 2014 by

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s hockey team will face off against the Tommies of the University of St. Thomas for the Ed Saugestad Cup in the 2014 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoff Championship on Saturday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights, Minn.

Gustavus earned a trip to the MIAC title game thanks to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Saint John’s University in the semifinals held Saturday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink.  The Tommies also survived a one-goal game in its semifinal contest by defeating St. Olaf 2-1 on Saturday night at the St. Thomas Ice Arena.

The Gusties head into the weekend ranked 12th in the nation with an overall record of 16-6-4, while St. Thomas comes in ranked second at 20-4-2.  The Tommies are looking for redemption this season after the Gusties knocked them out of the playoffs in heartbreaking fashion a year ago.  As the No. 4 seed, Gustavus traveled to Mendota Heights where it took down MIAC Champion St. Thomas by the score of 1-0.

Live video and live stats for Saturday night’s game will be provided by the University of St. Thomas.
