Collegeville, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s indoor track and field team turned in a score of 133 to place second at the CSB – SJU Quad held Saturday at the McNeely Spectrum. The Gusties posted three individual event wins in the five-team meet. Saint Benedict took first with 220 points, Hamline placed third with 113, Concordia finished fourth with 93, and Saint Mary’s rounded out the field in fifth with nine.
Led by Caitlin Fermoyle (Jr., Mendota Heights, Minn.), Gustavus had a strong showing in the meet’s distance races. Fermoyle won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:43.71. Lyndsi Schwichtenberg (Sr., Owatonna, Minn.) finished runner-up in the mile with 5:35.48, and Marit Henckel (Jr., Viroqua, Wis.) took third in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:12.88.
Nevada Wendlandt (Sr., Maplewood, Minn.) paced the Gusties in the field events with a pair of first place performances. Wendlandt won the high jump after clearing a height of 5-feet 2.25-inches and the pole vault after going over the bar at 11-feet 1.75-inches. Kelly O’Neill (Jr., Lake Elmo, Minn.) took runner-up behind Wendlandt in the high jump at 5-feet 0.25-inches, and Kelsey Harms (So., Apple Valley, Minn.) came in second in the pole vault at 10-feet 2-inches.
The Gustavus women’s indoor track and field team will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 28 when it travels to St. Paul to compete in the Macalester Pre-MIAC Meet.
