Men’s Swimming & Diving Competes At Norse Sprint Invite

Decorah, Iowa – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s swimming and diving team posted two event wins and broke one pool record at the Norse Sprint Invite held Saturday afternoon at the Luther College Aquatic Center.  No team scores were kept at the four-team meet.

Gustavus’s top performance of the day came in the 200-free relay where Ross Larson (Jr., Brookings, S.D.), Sam Olson-Anstett (Sr., Shoreview, Minn.), Jeff Nelson (So., Maple Grove, Minn.), and Kurt Youngdahl (Jr., Deephaven, Minn.) came together to break the pool record with a time of 1:30.90 in a first place performance.

The top Gustie swimmer of the day was Elliot Hoekstra (Sr., Mendota Heights, Minn.) who recorded the team’s only individual event win of the afternoon.  Hoekstra swam to gold in the 100 breaststroke where he touched the wall in 1:03.60.  He also added a second place finish in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 29.21.

Dante Colucci (So., Summit, N.J.) added two top three swims of his own by finishing second in the 50 butterfly (24.53) and taking third in the 100 freestyle (51.40).

Jeff Nelson tallied a runner-up finish in the 200 individual medley in 57.42, while Kurt Youngdahl placed third in the 100 butterfly (55.20) and Trent Youngdahl (Fr., Deephaven, Minn.) finished third in the 100 backstroke (1:01.21).

The Gustavus swimming and diving teams will be back in the pool next weekend when they travel to Grinnell, Iowa to compete in the Grinnell Invitational set to take place on Jan. 17-18.
