Sioux Falls, S.D. – The Gustavus women’s golf team concluded its weekend in South Dakota with a fifth place finish at the Augustana Fall Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The Gusties turned in a final round team score of 319 (+35). After an opening round 322 (+38), Gustavus finished with a total of 641 (+73) on the weekend. Minnesota State University, Mankato finished first in the invitational with a team score of 602 (+34).
The Gusties were led by junior Sam Falk (Glenwood, Minn.) in Sunday’s final round. Falk recorded a five-over-par 76 to follow a 10-over-par 81 in yesterday’s opening round. Falk’s weekend total of 157 (+15) was good enough to place her in a tie for 13th in the individual standings.
Falk was followed in the 70’s by Lauren Johnson (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.). Johnson shot a six-over-par 77 on Sunday to be Gustavus’ second leading scorer on the afternoon. The junior opened the weekend with a 10-over-par 81 yesterday, leaving her in a tie for 17th with a total of 158 (+16) on the weekend.
Liz Strom (Jr., Fargo, N.D.) was the only other Gustie to finish in the top-25. Strom opened the weekend with a seven-over-par 78 on Saturday and finished with an eleven-over-par 82 on Sunday for a grand total of 160 (+18) on the weekend. Her performance landed her in a tie for 23rd.
The Gusties will be back on the links next weekend when they participate in the Division 3 Classic in Lake City, Minn. on Saturday, Sept. 14th and Sunday, Sept. 15th.
