Women’s Golf Finishes Third At Georgianni Invitational To Open 2013 Season

Eau Claire, Wis. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team kicked off the 2013 season with a third place finish at the Georgianni Invitational on Sunday afternoon.  The Gusties combined for a score of 328 (+36) in Sunday’s final round, which was hosted by UW-Eau Claire at Wild Ridge Golf Course.  Gustavus finished with a 657 (+77) on the weekend.  After sitting in second place yesterday, St. Thomas came back to finish first with a 652 (+72).

Junior Lauren Johnson (Plymouth, Minn.) led Gustavus on the final day with a six-over-par 79.  Johnson’s 79 was the third lowest score recorded on the day.  Fellow junior Sam Falk (Glenwood, Minn.) followed with an eight-over 81 on Sunday.  After opening the tournament with an eight-over 80 on Saturday, Falk totaled a 16-over 161 on the weekend to finish in a tie for sixth.

Joining Falk in the top 20 were teammates Chloe Altmann (So., Olivia, Minn.) and Jordan Drenttel (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.).  Altmann followed up her opening round 81 (+9) with a second round 84 (+11) to finish in a tie for 14th with a 165 (+20).  Drenttel, like Altmann, turned in a round of 84 (+11) on Sunday.  Paired with an 82 (+10) on Saturday, Drenttel wrapped up her weekend in a tie for 16th with a 166 (+21).

The Gusties will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. for the Augustana Fall Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7th and Sunday, Sept. 8th.
