Sam Falk recorded Gustavus' best round of the day with a 76 (+5).

Eau Claire, Wis. – The Gustavus women’s golf team sits in third place following Saturday’s opening round of the Georgianni Invitational, hosted by UW-Eau Claire at Mill Run Golf Course.  The Gusties shot a combined 329 (+41) on the day and are currently eight strokes off the lead, held by Wartburg College.  The Knights totaled 321 (+33) strokes on the round.  St. Thomas sits in second place with an opening round score of 325 (+37).

Gustavus got key contributions from its two captains, Sam Falk (Jr., Glenwood, Minn.) and Jordan Drenttel (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) as well as Chloe Altmann (So., Olivia, Minn.).  Falk led the Gusties with an eight-over-par 80 and is currently tied for seventh on the individual leaderboard.  Altmann followed with a nine-over-par 81 to tie for 10th and Drentell registered a 10-over-par 82 to sit in a tie for 13th.  Hannah Erickson (So., St. Cloud, Minn.), who entered play this weekend as an individual, also recorded an eight-over-par 80 and is tied with Falk for seventh place in the individual standings.

Tomorrow’s second round is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. at Wild Ridge Golf Course.
