Alex Kolquist And Tyler McMorrow Named To Finalized GCAA All-America Team Posted on June 17th, 2013 by

Norman, Okla. – A pair of Gustavus Adolphus men’s golfers made an appearance on the finalized Division III PING All-America Team announced Monday, June 17 by the Golf Coaches Association of America.  Senior Alex Kolquist (Hermantown, Minn.) earned a place on the first team, while junior Tyler McMorrow (St. Cloud, Minn.) earned a spot on the third team.  Kolquist was awarded first team accolades following the NCAA Division III Championship, and McMorrow earned All-America status by way of his top 10 finish at the nation meet.

In addition to the eight student-athletes who were voted to the first team, eight players were named to the second team, and 30 players were named to the third team on the finalized version of the Division III PING All-America Team.

A recipient of All-America Second Team honors in 2011, Alex Kolquist is the first Gustavus golfer since Kyle Rohlfs in 2008 to earn first team recognition.  Dating back to Terry Olson in 1985 – the men’s golf program’s initial First Team All-American – Kolquist becomes the ninth Gustie to receive such an honor.  He concluded his career with a 46th place finish at the NCAA Championships, bringing his season average to a team-best 73.27 in 22 rounds.  The 2012 MIAC Individual Medalist finished the year ranked sixth in the country in stroke average.

Following his superb performance at the NCAA Championships, Tyler McMorrow earned Third Team All-America honors junior year.  Although he fired a 76 (+4) on the opening day of the tournament, McMorrow turned things around over the final three days.  He shot a 72 (+1) on day two, a 70 (-1) on day three, and a 72 (+1) on day four to finish with a team-best two-over-par 290.  When all the scores were official, McMorrow found himself in a tie for fifth place in the individual standings – the best finish by a Gustavus golfer since Luke Benoit placed second in 2004.  Tyler concluded his season ranked 33rd in the nation with a stroke average of 74.82 in 22 rounds.
